Family Success Specialist

 

Family Promise of Tuscola County, located in Caro, MI, is seeking a full-time Family Success Specialist to join our team. We are an Affiliate of Family Promise, the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness for families with children in the United States. Family Promise of Tuscola County will be accepting resumes on a rolling basis until the position is filled, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2025.

Description:

We are seeking an organized, compassionate, and motivated teammate who will help local families transition from homelessness to permanent housing by leveraging Family Promise’s community-wide, trauma-informed, low-barrier, and housing-first approaches. The Family Support Specialist will assist families in reaching their goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the initial intake process to determine program eligibility.

  • Assist families in identifying strengths and barriers while developing an actionable Family Success Plan.

  • Engage with a variety of service organizations, property managers, schools, etc.

  • Conduct orientation for new families moving into the rotational housing program.

  • Manage a Family Success caseload of up to 4 families in rotational housing and 30 families in diversion, prevention, and stabilization.

  • Communicate well with Lead host site volunteers. Provide crisis support to families and volunteers as needed.

  • Assist each family in accomplishing their goals. This may include job applications and interview preparation, budgeting/financial coaching, good tenancy, and connecting families to necessary community resources.

  • Serve as an advocate for families with community service agencies.

  • Assist in retaining and/or securing housing for families by liaising with landlords.

  • Assist in preparing families for permanent housing: debt repair, utilities, furniture, etc.

  • Conduct individual meetings with families as outlined in their Family Success Plan.

  • Collaborate and communicate with the Executive Director at least twice per week.

  • Assist with speaking engagements and special events as needed.

  • Work with, train, and supervise volunteers and interns as needed.

  • Document all case management activities including meetings, services provided (furniture, bus passes, financial assistance, gas cards, referrals) etc.

  • Additional responsibilities as needed.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • The successful candidate is enthusiastic and can display good judgment, take initiative, and help families achieve outcomes. Must have a can-do/ figure-it-out attitude.

  • Four-year degree in social work, psychology, business or related degree desired, but not required.

  • 1 year of experience in direct service field- related to employment placement, housing/shelter, and/or family services preferred.

  • Family Promise reserves the right to determine employment eligibility based on a combination of education, personal and professional experience, and proven ability.

  • Basic understanding of trauma-informed care, rapid-rehousing, housing-first and a strength-based approach.

  • Must be detail-oriented, able to develop programs, procedures, and related materials.

  • Must be able to develop and execute projects; able to prioritize, self-manage, work independently, and use good judgment at all times.

  • Must be proficient in basic computer programs and record keeping.

  • Comfortable working with various constituents: families, faith community volunteers, government, corporate and foundation partners, etc.

 

Salary and Benefits:

  • This is a full-time, 40+ hour per week position, with a flexible schedule.

  • Schedule may include evening, holiday, and weekend shifts, as well as two weeks of 24/7 on-call per month.

  • Benefits: Generous PTO, retirement contribution, mileage reimbursement, educational and professional development opportunities.

  • Starting salary range $40,000.00-$45,000.00, with a potential increase after 90 day period.

 

Work Environment:

  • Family Promise is comprised of a small staff and a large pool of volunteers.

  • The Family Success Specialists report directly to the Executive Director.

  • Office setting, field work, host site and home visits, local travel 15-20%.

  • Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds may be necessary.
